What is an HLC area chart?

HLC area charts can be seen as a combination of line and area charts to display price movements and show how significantly the price has changed. But unlike area charts, HLC area shades in the distance between high, low, and close prices.

Enabling the chart type

On Supercharts, open the chart type dropdown menu on the upper toolbar, and select "HLC area."

To customize the chart, find the gear-like "Settings" button on the upper toolbar, and select the "Symbol" tab.

In the "HLC area" section, you can configure the following parameters:

High line: Change the color, thickness, and opacity of the highest price levels.
Low line: Change the color, thickness, and opacity of the lowest price levels.
Close line: Change the color, thickness, and opacity of the closing price levels.
Fill: Change the colors and opacity of the areas between highest and closing levels and between lowest and closing levels.

HLC area charts in a nutshell

HLC area charts can help you identify how volatile the asset is to spot potential reversals — when the distance between the lines narrows.
