New Weekly Highs & Lows Can Help with Timeframes Intraday charts can obscure important weekly context. This script brings that structure directly onto even the shortest intervals. (It’s based on long-established TradeStation ShowMe indicators.)
New Weekly Highs & Lows plots circles when price breaks above (blue) or below (yellow) the current week’s developing range. This allows traders to see when a stock enters new territory — even when viewing a 1-minute (or 1-second) chart.
The indicator can be helpful during sessions like February 3, when the Nasdaq-100 violated its previous weekly low and began a steady decline.
The script also plots a vertical line on the first candle of each week to visually separate periods.

Is it Time for a Pullback? Check Bars Since MA Test An old market adage declares that “prices never move in a straight line.” Dips occur even in bullish markets. But how can traders know when prices may be due for a pullback?
Today’s script tries to answer that question by asking how many bars have passed since a stock, index or other symbol has tested a given moving average. Long periods of time without touching a line such as the 50-day simple moving average, for example, could prompt traders to be more patient.
Bars Since MA Test counts how many bars have passed since prices touched or crossed the MA in question. The resulting value is plotted in a simple histogram. Users can set the MA length and type. By default, it uses the 50-day simple moving average (SMA).
The chart above applies Bars Since MA Test to the S&P 500. It shows that the index has gone 129 bars without testing its 50-day SMA. That’s the longest since a 146-bar stretch between July 2006 and February 2007.
Other longer runs include January-August 1995 (156 bars), November 1960-June 1961 (144 bars) and April-November 1958 (158 bars).
Given the small number of comparable readings, could traders suspect the current advance is getting long in the tooth?

Breakdown or Buyable Dip? Pullback Depth Can Help As a common adage says, “the market doesn’t move in a straight line.” But when prices have fallen, it’s not always clear whether buying makes sense. That’s where today’s script may help.
Most traditional indicators judge movement based on price. That’s obviously important, but time can also be helpful. After all, there’s a big difference between probing a low from 2-3 weeks ago versus a low from months or even years in the past.
Pullback Depth clearly illustrates this by answering the question: “Today’s low is the lowest in how many bars?”
The resulting integer is plotted in a simple histogram. Values are always negative because bars with higher absolute values (meaning more negative, or further below zero) are potentially more bearish.
The study also has a maximum lookback period to avoid overwhelming the study with too many bars. Its default setting of 125 bars includes enough history to illustrate the trend.
The stock market’s recent run has seen only shallow pullbacks. Most dips have probed 1-2 weeks in the past, while Friday’s selloff only turned back the clock a month.
Consider two other previous moments.
First, the great bull run of 1995 saw only shallow pullbacks. (None exceeded 50 days.):
In contrast, early 2022 saw the S&P 500 test levels more than 100 candles into the past. It soon fell into an official “bear market:”

3-Signal Directional Trend Strategy for E-Minis This is a conceptual strategy intended for E-mini S&P 500 futures with hourly bars.
It uses three signals, going long or short when two or more change in the same direction.
First is MACD. A positive oscillator is considered a bullish signal and a falling oscillator is interpreted bearishly.
Next, stochastics are used as an overbought/oversold indicator. Overbought conditions are considered bearish and oversold readings are viewed as bullish.
Third is a custom indicator based on our Moving Average Speed script. It takes the rate of change of the 50-hour simple moving average (SMA), and then smooths it using a 10-period average. This provides a directional signal.
Traders may want to experiment with different settings for moving average speed.
Note: This is intended for use with stock index futures, which have round-the clock price data to populate the data in the indicators. It may not yield good results with stocks or ETFs.

Bars Since MA Cross Can Help Trend Following Moving average crosses are popular signals for trend followers. Like many conditions, they tend to reverse after a certain amount of time. Today’s script is designed to help traders visualize and interpret these turns.
Bars Since MA Cross counts how many bars have passed since a fast-moving average crossed a slower MA. Bullish readings, with the faster MA above the slow, are plotted with positive numbers. The opposite is true for bearish conditions. Users can choose between simple, exponential and weighed average types. They can also mix them, comparing a fast EMA for a slower SMA, for example.
By default, it uses the 8- and 21-day EMAs.
This approach can help in a couple of ways. First, it can show divergences as a move weakens. Microsoft, in the example above, had a shorter bullish phase as it made new highs last December. This was followed by even briefer periods in January before the bear market took hold.
Likewise in May and June, Bars Since MA Cross showed shorter bearish periods before July’s counter-trend rally.
The second potential application is to know the age of a move. In this case look at September 2020. MSFT’s 8-day EMA was above its 21-day EMA for 108 days. The chart shows this was unusually long by previous examples, giving traders a sense the rally was getting long in the tooth. (MSFT would go the rest of that year without a new high.)
In conclusion, Bars Since MA Cross judges a move by its age and not its intensity. It’s a different approach that can sometimes help more than viewing simple price action.

RSI Past Can Turn RSI Into a Directional Tool The Relative Strength Index was created by J. Welles Wilder to measure overbought and oversold conditions. It’s also found popularity as an overall measure of direction because upward-trending stocks often hit overbought conditions. The opposite can be true with underperformers.
Today’s custom script, RSI Past, attempts to capture this secondary use of RSI as a directional indicator.
RSI Past achieves this by comparing how many bars have passed since RSI's most recent overbought and oversold readings. It then plots a simple difference between those two numbers.
Stocks with “bullish” signals will have positive readings that will increase each time RSI hits an overbought condition.
“Bearish” readings are just the opposite, growing more negative as oversold conditions occur.
An examination of some individual stocks may show the usefulness of this approach.

This raises some interesting questions for Apple, shown on the main chart above. AAPL’s RSI Past has maintained a bullish reading for over a year -- unlike most other big technology stocks and the broader Nasdaq-100. Could this reflect bigger directional strength, especially with prices holding the $150 level that’s had relevance several times mid-2021?

2 MA Ratio Can Help with Moving Averages Many technical analysts use moving average crosses to assess trend changes. A faster-moving MA crossing above a slower-moving line may be viewed as a bullish signal. The opposite can apply to the downside.
While these methods may help analyze price direction, they can often force traders to wait until the cross occurs. Sometimes it may be useful to anticipate the event – or at least know it’s getting close.
That’s where the custom script 2 MA Ratio can be useful because it tracks the fast and slow moving averages. The fast MA is then shown as a percent of the slow MA. Positive readings indicate a bullish condition and vice versa for the negative.
It’s also color-coded to clearly illustrate when the crosses occur.
2 MA Ratio can handle simple moving averages (SMAs) and exponential moving averages (EMAs). It even lets you compare SMAs to EMAs. Users can choose between using open, high, low or closing prices as the inputs. (It defaults to Close.)
The chart above shows the short-term pair of the 8- and 21-day EMAs on Tesla (TSLA). The second chart below shows the same stock with the slower 50- and 200-day SMAs. Notice the “Golden Cross” last summer and the “Death Cross” in May:

How Old Is this Bull Run Getting? Check MA Test Bars Since There are many price-based techniques for anticipating the end of a move. However, the simple passage of time can also help because bull markets don’t last forever. While old age doesn’t necessarily cause investors to sell, a reversal becomes more likely the longer a trend lasts.
So, how long have prices been going up? There are various ways to measure that. Our earlier script, MA streak , offered one solution by counting the number of bars that a given moving average has been rising or falling.
Today’s script takes a different approach by counting the number of candles since price touched or crossed a given moving average. It tracks the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) by default. It can be adjusted to other types like exponential and weighted with the AvgType input.
In the chart above, Bars Since MA Test was adjusted to use the 200-day SMA. Viewing the S&P 500 with this study helps put the current market into context.
We can see that prices last touched the 200-day SMA 386 sessions ago (June 29, 2020). That’s relatively long based on history, but not unprecedented. For example, the indicator was at 407 in February 2018 as the market pulled back. It also hit 475 in October 2014 (following the breakout above 2007 highs).
Additionally, the S&P 500 is nearing the record of the 1990s bull market (393 candles on July 12, 1996).
Before that, you have to look all the way back to the 1950s, when it twice peaked at 627.
The conclusion? The current run without a test of the 200-day SMA is above average, but not yet record-setting. It may be interesting to watch as earnings season approaches and the Federal Reserve looks to tighten monetary policy.

Price Streak Is Another Way to Spot Trends Price is never wrong, but sometimes reading it can be tricky.
Movements in the broader market or a sector can distract from a symbol that's been steadily trending in one direction or another. Sometimes the beginning of a move can also be so subtle that it flies under most people's radar.
Price Streak can help overcome these limitations by tracking consecutive up/down periods. It plots an easy-to-read color-coded histogram.
Because it simply counts the candles in a trend, Price Streak can give a clearer picture than magnitude-biased indicators like relative strength or MACD.
Applying Price Streak to the daily chart of Bitcoin Dominance , we find something very interesting right now: the longest drop since March 2017.
That moment in history, almost three years ago, marked the beginning of the last Altcoin bull market. Ethereum , for example, went from roughly $60 to over $1,300 in the following nine months.
While past performance isn't a guarantee of future results, this illustrates how sustained price moves can reveal changes in character.
Based on Price Streak's current reading, it may support the idea of another Altcoin cycle beginning now.
