Win Rate, Risk-Reward, and Expectancy: A Practical GuideYou’ve probably come across traders highlighting their win rate as proof of consistency and skill.
On the surface, it does feel like a reliable measure: more winning trades should mean better performance, right?
Not always.
Here’s where things become more insightful: win rate on its own doesn’t capture the full picture.
Some traders maintain high win rates yet struggle to grow their accounts, while others with a lower win rate manage to build steady, compounding gains over time.

MES Extends the Repair — Can Buyers Hold the New Upper Shelf?MES Extends the Repair — Can Buyers Hold the New Upper Shelf?
🟡 Market regime: Improving repair / uneven confirmation
Macro backdrop: Elevated yields remain a headwind
Tuesday strengthened the recovery. MES moved above Monday’s 7,825–7,826.50 support decision and cleared the prior high area, extending toward the marked 7,897.25 reference.
Price then pulled back and consolidated near 7,880. The immediate question for Wednesday is whether buyers can defend this new upper structure.

MES Oct. 2nd Analysis PreMarket New York Session Mark up MES check chart for setup ideas. MES has 2 gaps above that it could potentially go and test or fill. Currently the strength seems to be slowing. My current basis is more leaning to shorts. I will only look for longs to scalp inside the gap fills. Beside that I will keep my eye on Price breaking below the trendlines with a 2nd candle candle closing outside of it for confirmation. Would be a Short Trade Entry.
These trendline can be extended and followed to track price action
ES Long Setup - Untested pdVAL + SP + Previous SupplyToday’s level of interest on ES is a potential long around 7794–7793.
This zone has a strong cluster of confluence, with the previous day Value Area Low at 7794 still untested, a single print around 7793, and the area also lining up with previous supply.
Should price rotate back into this zone during today’s session, I’ll be watching closely for a reaction and confirmation for a potential scalp long.
As always, this is reaction dependent, the level alone isn’t enough. I want to see buyers

S&P 500 (ES) Analysis, Key-Zones, Setup for Wed (Oct 7)Bias: The December S&P 500 contract settled Tuesday at 7,874.00, up 47.75 points or 0.61 percent, after trading between 7,897.50 and 7,829.00, a 68.50 point daily range. The settle finished 65.7 percent of the way up from the low. Those extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder, and they match the chart's daily bar. Tuesday was the fourth consecutive higher settle and the highest settle since 08/13, the 7,897.50 high was the highest print since 08/14, and the 7
MESZ Oct 6: Bullish Breakout Confirmed — 7881 Next?MESZ has confirmed the higher-time-frame breakout after a 4-hour candle closed above 7,815.
Price is now trading around 7,863, and the first upside liquidity target sits around 7,880–7,881.
Below current price, the green fair value gap remains an important support and reaction zone. A pullback into that area would not automatically invalidate the bullish structure.
On the 15-minute chart, liquidity around 7,820 is also worth monitoring as a possible deeper pullback target during the week.

MES Technicals Small Timeframe Oct.7MES has reached back to the highs and filled our gaps that we had marked for the last week or so. Now will we get full rejection here?. Seller are weakening. IM STILL SEEING MULTIPLE sellers confirmation signals. Check chart for current confirmation I'm looking for next and where to enter.
This would be a great area to start putting some orders in to enter. Or wait on candle type and break or the last swing low for conservative entry.
Keep in mind this level is near all time highs and there is
ES Futures – Previous Day VAL + Anchored VWAP Long ZoneToday’s level of interest on ES Futures is a potential long zone around 7756–7752.
The main confluence here is the pdVAL, which remains untested, alongside the current uptrend aVWAP coming into the same area.
What makes the setup more interesting is the liquidity currently building beneath today’s local/overnight lows. Ideally, during the New York session I’d like to see price push lower, sweep those lows, and trade into the 7756–7752 zone.
That would give us a nice combination of:

Equity Strength Still in-Place, ES Support BounceEquities took a nasty turn on Wednesday as oil prices jumped and Treasury yields spiked, but as has become somewhat customary buyers pounced on the pullback and, remarkably, the weekly bar is green as we go into the final hours of trade on Friday.
It was the 's3' spot of support looked at earlier this week that ultimately held the lows, leading to a volley back above the 7800 level in S&P 500 futures, and as we go into next week and the end of Q3, bulls have an open door to make a run at the A
Your Best Backtest Might Be Your Worst Strategy - Here's WhyYou built a trading strategy.
You backtested it.
The results look great.
Now comes the dangerous question: Which parameters should you actually trade?
This is where strategy development gets much more complicated than simply finding the settings that produced the highest historical profit.
Optimization isn't about finding the combination of parameters that makes a backtest look best. It's about finding parameters that have a reasonable chance of continuing to work on data the strategy hasn'
ES Long Setup – Untested pdVAL + pdEQ ConfluenceToday I’m watching the 7864 area for a potential scalp long.
This level marks the pdVAL, which remains untested, with additional confluence from the pdEQ just below at 7863.
That gives us a nice defined zone of interest should price rotate lower into it during today’s session.
As always, this is reaction dependent - if price trades into the 7864–7863 zone, I’ll be monitoring the reaction and looking for confirmation before considering a scalp long.
Key confluence:

Potential Ideas MES - 10/06/2026Working regime: 🟡 Improving repair / uneven confirmation
Buyers earned the stronger starting position Monday. They reclaimed 7,778.75–7,785.25, cleared 7,804.50, then established above 7,825–7,826.50. Tuesday’s primary question is whether that upper shelf becomes durable support.
Favor evaluating held retests and continuation while the reclaimed structure survives. Shorts need fresh seller evidence. Elevated yields, weak regional banks or a resistance touch cannot substitute for that evidence.

Wednesday failed near 7,785, tested 7,707.50, then recovered into a 7,739–7,749 balance. RSP, banks, and breadth remain weak. These are areas to watch for a setup—not automatic entries.
🔴 7,749–7,762 failed reclaim: Probe resistance → reject → leave the level → return → fail. Watch 7,739, then 7,729/7,719.

MESZ Oct 7: Pullback Into 7800 FVG Before Another Push Toward 78MESZ is trading around 7,843 after pulling back from yesterday’s high near 7,897.
The main area I’m watching today is the stacked 4-hour and 1-hour fair value gap around 7,800.
If price revisits that zone, I’ll look for bullish confirmation rather than assuming the level must hold.
A successful reaction from the FVG could support another move toward the major upside liquidity around 7,897.
On the downside, 7,760 is the key higher-time-frame invalidation level.
A confirmed 4-hour close below 7,76
MESZ Oct 5: 7759 Pullback Before a Break Above 7815?MESZ starts the week after recovering from last week’s liquidity sweep around 7,710.
The main higher-time-frame breakout level I’m watching is 7,815.
A confirmed 4-hour close above 7,815 would strengthen the bullish structure and could support continuation toward approximately 7,848.
For today, the first important intraday level is the overnight liquidity around 7,759.
Price may revisit this area before deciding its next direction.
If buyers defend 7,759, I’ll continue watching for another push
MESZ Oct 2: 7767 Breakout or Pullback to 7736 First?MESZ is trading around 7,763 after yesterday’s large lower wick and recovery.
The first intraday area I’m watching is around 7,736, where lower-time-frame liquidity could attract price before another move higher.
On the upside, 7,767 is the key confirmation level. A confirmed 1-hour or 4-hour close above that area could support continuation toward 7,783, followed by 7,815.
On the downside, 7,723 remains the key higher-time-frame support.
Today’s September Employment Situation report is scheduled
MESZ Oct 1: 7767 Breakout or 7705 Breakdown?MESZ swept overnight liquidity around 7,705 and is now trading back near the middle of the current range.
For the upside, 7,767 is the main confirmation level.
A confirmed 1-hour or 4-hour close above 7,767 could support continuation toward 7,786, followed by the higher liquidity area around 7,814–7,840.
On the downside, 7,705 remains the key support and bearish confirmation level.
A confirmed break below 7,705 could open the path toward approximately 7,675.
