Creating a portfolio used to mean entering each position one by one. If you were already tracking symbols in a watchlist, that felt like double work. That’s why we added the ability to create a portfolio directly from a watchlist, but until now, every position was recorded as if you bought it yesterday. Your PnL started at zero, and the portfolio told you nothing about how your holdings have actually performed.
With this update, you can now pick a historical date when creating a portfolio from a watchlist. The system will automatically look up closing prices for that date and use them as your entry prices. The result: a portfolio that reflects real performance from the moment you choose – not just from the moment you started tracking.
How it works
When you create a new portfolio from a watchlist, you’ll see an option to set a start date. Pick any date in the past, and we’ll pull the closing price for each symbol on that date. One click, and your portfolio is populated with historically accurate entry prices.
From there, you can fine-tune individual transactions – adjust quantities, change specific prices, or add more detail – whatever you need for more precise tracking.

This is for anyone who’s been watching the market in a watchlist and wants to start measuring results. Whether you’ve been holding a set of stocks for months or just want to quickly model a portfolio from a specific point in time, this gets you there fast.
Keep in mind
This creates a new portfolio. It does not modify any existing portfolios or transactions. Each instrument gets one share at the closing price for your chosen date, so you’ll want to update quantities to match your actual holdings. The date you pick applies to all symbols at once.
